A. Your best line of defense is to stand before the judge calmly. Look him in the eye and answer the questions posed to you in calm and professional manner. He will give you a chance to state your side. Do it without slurring her - do it without a lot of heated emotion. Give the details and how you did not do what she claimed you did. If you get worked up and start slamming her in front of the judge then you will be seen as a violent type that cannot control themselves. My ex and I were in court all the time for domestic violence related issues and he always let his true nature show. The judge knew he was hitting me because of the way he cussed me and carried on in court. It was his true nature. Give the judge a chance to see your true… [cont.]

How to overcome family violence?
Q. How to overcome family violence with husband and how to argue for all silly matters, my husband is too much dominating me how to avoid
Asked by esther t - Wed Oct 11 04:47:35 2006 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First, you must have respect and love for each other. When these two factors are present, there is no way of dominating each other. There will always be some differences and disagreements on matters, but screaming and shouting can be hushed by a warm and gentle manner of speaking or hug. Learn how to listen. Talk to your husband if you feel that he's already taking advantage of you. It is not wrong to express to him what you feel, because after all, he's your husband, right? Who else would help and correct each other's flaws but you and him? By the way, if his dominance already extends to hurting you physically, I suggest that you leave him. You deserve someone better. Goodluck!

Sociological research points to the media as reinforcing family violence?
Q. Why is this?
Asked by CarefullySealed - Wed Apr 9 16:14:50 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That's a pretty broad source, the media. Some media does, like Jerry Springer, that show definitely promotes a smack down. Also, a lot of video games promote violent tendencies. It's not likely to make a non-violent person suddenly act out, but it might help someone prone to violence slide down that slippery slope. Other media prevents or helps educated against family violence, like documentaries on the subject or shows where assailants are in jail for family violence. Depends on the media you examine, but some media does promote violence.

In a family violence case in Texas, if the victim wants to drop charges, do they have to take a course?
Q. If the victim wants to stop charges from pending against the abuser, does the victim have to take some kind of course in Texas?
Asked by vanillaqueen018 - Wed Feb 25 20:11:38 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It won't matter if the victim wants the person charged or not. If there was an arrest for family violence, the actor (suspect) is being charged by the State of Texas, not by the victim. If police had probable cause to make an arrest, they file the complaint in the name of the state of Texas. That is part of the paperwork that has to be done when any arrest is made for any violation of the law.

A. Why aren't they doing anything about it themselves?! All they have to do is call 911 & the police w/be there in a matter of minutes. They would take the abuser away, they would then get a restraining order & keep the person out of their lives. The law would totally stand behind them & protect them. The abuser would not be able to have ANY contact w/them in ANY way, so they would have no fear of them being hurt by him. Someone HAS to do something about it. You could call anonymously, tell them it's a domestic violence case, & the police would take care of it from there on out. Do NOT let someone get hurt if you can do something to help them. This person has to be stopped before something horrible happens. IF you know for sure this… [cont.]
