Divorce (or the dissolution of marriage) is the final termination of a marital union, cancelling the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage and dissolving the bonds of matrimony between the parties. In most countries divorce requires the sanction of a court or other authority in a legal process. The legal process for divorce may also involve issues of spousal support, child custody, child support, distribution of property and division of debt. In Western countries, a divorce does not declare a marriage null and void, as in an annulment, but it does cancel the married status of the parties. Where monogamy is law, this allows each former partner to marry another. Where polygyny is legal, divorce allows the woman to marry another. Divorce laws vary considerably around the world. Divorce is not permitted in some countries, such as in Malta and in the Philippines, though an annulment is permitted. From 1971 to 1996, four European countries legalised divorce: Spain, Italy, Portugal and the Republic of Ireland. From Wikipedia under the

Hi Everyone, If one were to file for an amicable divorce in the state of Oregon, how long does it take for the divorce to finalize? Also, would one have to file for separation before filing for divorce in Oregon? Anything helps! Thanks! Asked by Katie - Tue Apr 21 03:53:15 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. An amicable (or uncontested) divorce is much faster than a contested. However the state of Oregon has a 90day mandatory waiting period. What this means is after all the paperwork is done and filed you need to wait 90 days after the day of filing before you will become legally divorced. Answered by lorisam7879 - Tue Apr 21 20:41:19 2009 How do I determine if my divorce is final? Q. I want to be certain that all necessary documents have been filed to make my Pennsylvania divorce final. Anyone know what I should check to determine this. My ex had his attorney handle all the paper work and I want to make sure that he isn't keeping any info from me. It's a no fault divorce, so I don't know. What do I need to look for and where? Any help is appreciated. Asked by Lizzy - Sat Mar 27 00:28:22 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. If he has not provided you with the paperwork, then you can call the county clerks office and ask for a copy of your finalized divorce decree. Q. I am just getting everything together to start my divorce. Once I fill out the papers and send them in, how long do I have to wait before the divorce is final?(examples: how long do I have to wait before I can marry again?) Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks Asked by missjamilynne - Wed Nov 26 15:30:04 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. First you have to have been living apart for one year. Then you can officially file for divorce. The divorce is final approximately 30 days from the date you filed. The problem a lot of people run into though is when one person either contests it, or keeps changing things in the separation agreement. My boyfriend's soon-to-be ex keeps thinking of new things to change in the child custody agreement, so he can't file for divorce until everything is to her liking. It's also hard to prove to a judge whether the other person is actually unsatisfied with the agreement or is just stalling to be spiteful, which can be very frustrating. Good luck!
