Why do juvenile offenders still become criminals when they are adults?
Q. I am looking for an article that mentions how juvenile prisoners are more likely to become adult prisoners and the psychological aspects of why. I remember reading how growing up in a juvenile center many teens feared becoming part of the real world, which is why they continued to commit crimes. Any help would be extremelyy useful. Thanks!

A. I cant offer an article but I can give some insight based on my experiences and observations. In a majority of cases, it is upbringing. When a young man or woman does not have strict parental guidance, they are left on their own. They have no respect for law and order and see nothing wrong in stealing or committing crimes. The juvenile justice system is entirely too lax. Far too much emphasis is placed on " he is not responsible for his actions due to his age" over what was actually done. I recall one particular case where a 12 year old girl was angry with a class mate. She took a gallon gas can ( for Dad's lawnmower) and dumped it on the other girl's porch and set the house on fire. $18,000 damage done. The child was given 4 months… [cont.]

What are some problems with our juvenile justice system?
Q. I have to write a paper about reforming our juvenile justice system. Can anyone give me some stats or info about what kind of things need to be changed?

A. I was sent to a Jr prison because I had no family to help me from about age 11 on. My worse crime was I smoked pot. I have never understood how this helped me as I have always been ashamed and harmed by it, always feeling less than everyone else. I have a Rio Contiguo H.S.Diploma from Juvenile Hall, makes me real proud to show it to employers. I am in my 50's now and still feel the scars of it everyday. I find myself afraid inside of things others don't, just I had to learn to deal with it. I never learnt alot of things or did things as a teenager like others, and so as an adult try to be a teen instead of an adult as I should. Can't help it, it is in that fear factor. How long should 2 juvenile terrapins spend basking?
Q. my two juvenile terrapins (one cumberland, one map) do not go out onto the dock to bask under my light. I have only had them 2 days but am a bit concerned?? can they bask underwater or do they have to be actually out of the water? because sometimes they sit on the filter with their necks extended and heads out of the water. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A. Individual terrapins vary as to the amount of basking that they prefer. Some like to come fully out of the water, while some like to come all the way out. It is better for them to come all the way out at some point to dry off their skin and shell. It is perfectly normal for them to sit on the filter and stick their heads out of the water, they are still getting UVA rays. Make sure the bulb your using is UVA and only on about 12 hours. My yellow bellied sliders are only 6 months old and they like to bask fully when no one is around. Yours might just be a little shy or are just getting used to their new environment.
